Rookie Year One features content from Tavi’s blog at Internet address www.thestylerookie.com, a site she started at the tender age of eleven. Style Rookie, in its debut, captured the attention of designers, editors, and industry insiders along with Tavi’s readers.
"It was always in the back of our minds that we would do a yearly print edition of Rookie, and by the time May rolled around, we realized that we should probably get on that if we wanted to publish it in time for our September anniversary. After a call with Drawn & Quarterly (and years of admiring basically everything they publish), it was clear that they were the perfect publisher for this...book? magazine? of online content, edited by a minor. IT IS SO AMAZING THAT THEY BELIEVED IN US. I cannot think of better hands to have been in."

Tavi started her blog in March 2008 with no interest in becoming a big deal in the fashion industry. She was simply looking for an outlet to express her interest in fashion in which her friends did not have an interest in. Her style inspiration is simply her own and most of her belongings are obtained from thrift stores, Barney’s occasionally, and freebies from top designers; a perk in being a well-known fashion blogger.
For the launch of Rookie Year One, Tavi
threw a party with guests including her closest friends, staff, and that one of
a kind Tavi style! Here’s a video of the celebration below.
