All the way in London, by way of Zimbabwe, there is an amazing designer by the name of Preline Martha who is the owner of Designs by Prelim!

I came across Prelim after she liked a photo of mine on Instagram. I fell in love with her designs after viewing her Instagram profile and immediately reached out to her so I could have her be apart of and interviewed for the I Influenced Fashion segment for Ridiculously Favored. She gladly accepted of course! Thank you so much Preline Martha!





Ridiculously Favored: How were you introduced to fashion?
Designs by Prelim: I was introduced to fashion by my mothers fashion stylist and fashion magazines I read all the time.

Ridiculously Favored: What inspired you to be a designer?
Designs by Prelim: My mother used to be a successful singer and I loved her stage costumes and would raid her closet trying on stuff. This spilled over to me making dresses for my dolls so from early on I knew I wanted to make clothes.

Ridiculously Favored: As a designer, what do you hope to accomplish?
Designs by Prelim: I want to make clothes that make women feel beautiful and empowered.

Ridiculously Favored: What have you accomplished so far?
Designs by Prelim: Well, I finally launched my own collection and I have worked and collaborated with many designers. Taking that step on my own was scary but great! I was also published in AfroElle magazine and my work is on award winning hair stylist and make-up artists websites. I am also showing my next collection at African London Fashion Week this August.


Ridiculously Favored: How do you describe fashion?
Designs by Prelim: Ever changing and constantly evolving.





Ridiculously Favored: What was your biggest challenge as a designer or your biggest challenge when you were starting your journey as a designer?
Designs by Prelim: It's staying motivated and not giving up when things are not moving as fast as you would like. Never give up, there's no short cut to success. It's good old fashion hard work.

Ridiculously Favored: That is very true and I'm glad you never gave up! Who is your support system?
Designs by Prelim: My family is my support system. They have always supported me in everything I've done.

Ridiculously Favored: That's amazing. There is nothing like support from your family. Now time for some fun questions. Let's spruce things up. What is your favorite fashion item?
Designs by Prelim: Has to be an amazing handbag!! I'm a bag addict and love love love bags. They can make an outfit look even more amazing!

Ridiculously Favored: What is your must have fashion item?
Designs by Prelim: A good coat that goes with everything.

Ridiculously Favored: Heels or flats?
Designs by Prelim: Heels!!! I'm 5 foot 3 and need every little height I can get! (laugh out loud)!

Ridiculously Favored: Yes! I know what you mean. I'm 5 foot 6 but I still crave to be taller! (laugh out loud) Chapstick or lipgloss?
Designs by Prelim: Lip gloss! It makes my lips look kissable!


Ridiculously Favored: haha yes! If you could work with any model who would it be and why?
Designs by Prelim: It would be the amazing Naomi Campbell she just makes anything look amazing and timeless.







Ridiculously Favored: I agree Naomi is a legend. What non-model  celebrity would you work with?
Designs by Prelim: Katy Perry. She is very experimental with her style and I would love to style her.

Ridiculously Favored: Describe yourself in seven words.
Designs by Prelim: Creative, Determined, Happy, Blessed, in love with life, ambitious, caring, and loving.

Ridiculously Favored: Describe your fashion style.
Designs by Prelim: My fashion style is laid back but I do let my inner glamorous diva come out a few times a year! (laugh out loud!)

Designs by Prelim: I will continue to influence fashion by continuing to empower women of all ages and continue to show African fashion in a modern way.
